Has anyone ever tried dirt? It is found in the book "Restoring your Digestive health" by Dr. Jordan Rubin and Dr. Joseph Brasco. I ordered Clay sonne's #7 detoxificant liquid. I received it today in the mail. I am wondering how well received it is in the IBS community.

Thank you.

Yes, it is a bit of a contradiction. Soluble fiber IS good for IBS because it forms a soft gel-like substance that moves easily through the intestines reducing episodes of both diarrhea and constipation. The downside is this substance can cause an increase in flatulance.

Here\'s a quote from the The National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC) website - http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/gas/index.htm about soluble fiber and gas.

\"Many foods contain soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber dissolves easily in water and takes on a soft, gel-like texture in the intestines. Found in oat bran, beans, peas, and most fruits, soluble fiber is not broken down until it reaches the large intestine, where digestion causes gas.\"

Does this mean soluble fiber supplements, which are recommended by most physicians, really isn't a good idea for IBS since soluble fiber increases gas?

This is totally contradictory to what Heather Van Vorous suggests in her Eating for IBS book and website. Interesting.

She stresses Soluble fiber in the diet.

It's both interesting and confusing to read an opposing suggestion to help prevent gas.

Maybe this is why the Eating For IBS diet gives me so much more gas!

This is the key to many IBS suffering patients. I know.... because this information has changed my life! I now believe that I have SIBO that is causing IBS type symptoms.

The problems like severe bloating and gas have been present since I was a young child and I am now 33 years old. It seemed that in the past no one believed that I really had a problem and my stomach and digestive problems were chalked up to IBS. My new doctor tried me on Xifaxin followed by Align. (antibiotics followed by probiotics). It worked and I was symptom free!

However, when I stopped the treatment, the bacteria returned. Today I went back to see my doctor and started taking the Probiotics again. I will take these Probiotics (good bacteria) forever.

I know that Align works and now I am on a Probiotic called Flora-Q. Align you can buy online or over the counter. The Flora-Q is a prescription.

If your doctor treats you with the antibiotics and probiotics, just know that symptoms will return if you do not continue the Probiotics. I learned this the hard way. However, I can't complain. This is the first time in all my years of suffering that there is hope and I know what I have.

Hi Denise - I am unable to give individual advice I'm afraid. However when it comes to goji berries/juice it would be good to do some research. There appears to be arguments both for and against the benefits of goji juices/berries. I would be interested to hear how you got on if you chose to go ahead and try your sister's product.

It is interesting that you say IBS is more physical than psychological and then list symptoms that usually come with it like lower back pain, headaches, sleep disturbances, fatigue, sexual dysfunction, etc. These symptoms are frequently stress related (psychological) in nature. I am a hypnotherapist who helps people with IBS. There are always stressful evernts that contribute to the symptoms of IBS. If these events can be neutralized by hypnosis and another technique called EFT, the symptoms dissappear. This leads me to believe that IBS is mainly caused and triggered by psychological causes.
